In New York, on Wednesday, August 18th, 100 supervisors, corporate sponsors, human resource personnel and Development School for Youth (DSY) interns celebrated this summer of development at the 2010 DSY Internship Reception at the All Stars Project, Inc. performing arts center on 42nd Street. The event, moderated by Nathaniel Christian, General Counsel for CastleOak Securities and All Stars Project Board Member, featured statements from supervisors at leading New York sponsoring companies including: John Kuzi, Director, Financial Services, Ernst & Young; Cynthia Ordinario, Enterprise Infrastructure, MetLife and Elizabeth White, Records Department Manager, Milberg LLP, who spoke about the value of the program for the young people, as well as for themselves, their colleagues and the positive impact sponsoring DSY interns has on the overall company environment.
The audience also heard from three DSY interns about their experience playing at creating new performances this summer. Moriah Jenkins said, "I now feel confident walking into a room and holding a conversation without feeling afraid or ashamed. I now know I have a voice and it is heard regardless of my age, and that people care. The people at Met Life cared every morning and every night. I feel like I have developed professionally and personally. I can see the development within myself and I'm proud to say I have grown into a more responsible, focused and polite young woman and I can't wait to take these tools I was given and use them in my day to day life."
