Moving Beyond Remediation to Developmental After School examined the ways traditional after school programs have failed to address the learning needs of inner-city youth, and looked at new successful models, like the All Stars Project's performance based approach, that are helping young people to develop. "As the Chairman and CEO of E&Y, Jim Turley knows something about 'best practices'. So we are particularly gratified by his choosing to support the All Stars Project, because in the field of after school and youth development, we are ‘the best practice'" said Gabrielle L. Kurlander, President and CEO, All Stars Project.

Mayor Bloomberg and city officials have turned to the private sector for help in improving the public schools. At the same time there are many business leaders and institutions that have funded new and innovative after-school programs that focus on development, rather than remediation. The All Stars Project is the leading force in the city for creating, field testing and implementing outside of school development of young people. Jim Turley, Chairman and CEO, Ernst & Young stated "Our involvement with the Development School for Youth means that the power of this institution is being leveraged on behalf of the communities and the young people who need it most. E&Y has invested in this new, outside-of-school development model and it has proven to be successful. Our city officials could adapt these innovations because they will improve public policy and contribute to the public good".

Ernst & Young is a national sponsor of the All Stars Project and is a leading corporate partner with the Development School for Youth (DSY), the All Stars' innovative after school leadership training program for inner-city youth. Over the last 9 years, under the leadership of Jim Turley, Ernst & Young has led Development School for Youth workshops and mock job interviews, and sponsored over 50 summer internships for graduates of the program.
