Performers from Youth Onstage! and the City Lights Youth Theatre come together under the direction of Robert McIntosh, artistic director of City Lights, to create an ambitious theatrical production and engage an iconic American novel, John Steinbeck's The Grapes of Wrath, a masterpiece about injustice and the dignity, decency and common struggles of ordinary people.
The story of the Joad family's forced eviction from their Oklahoma farm to become migrant laborers during the Great Depression is told through this Tony Award-winning adaptation by Frank Galati.

On Sunday, March 14th directly following the show there was a Culture Talk: Creating Community in a Time of Disaster. Panelists included: Brian Tolle, internationally known sculptor whose most famous work is the half-acre sized Irish Hunger Memorial located along the Battery Park City esplanade; Michèle Voltaire Marcelin, poet, performer and visual artist who recently returned from her native Haiti; Robert Bruce McIntosh, artistic director of City Lights Youth Theatre and director of The Grapes of Wrath and Pamela A. Lewis, director of youth programs for the All Stars Project. The panel was moderated by Carolyn Kresky, three-time Emmy Award wining broadcast journalist.
