Sadayah from ASP of NJ, Development School for Youth

Growing up in the North Ward of Newark, New Jersey, Sadayah always thought that business professionals were stuck-up and uninterested in kids like her. But after attending the Development School for Youth workshops and interning at Ernst and Young, she was pleasantly surprised that the business professionals she met wanted to contribute to her success as a future accountant; in fact, she still keeps in touch with many of her mentors today. In her internship, Sadayah rotated to various departments and learned new computer skills while also making money for the first time in her life. The DSY performance workshops also taught her the skills she needed to overcome her fear of public speaking; “I didn’t know how to handle myself. Each week having to improvise as we met new people helped me feel more comfortable now when in conversation with another person.”
