The new PBS/BBC documentary, America Beyond the Color
Line with Henry Louis Gates, Jr., aired nationally on
Channel 13 at 9:00 p.m. February 3 and 4. In the 4-hour series
Dr. Gates, noted African American scholar and Chair of Harvard
University's African-American Studies Department, examines
the state of Black America today through interviews with some
of the country's leading African Americans in politics, business,
culture and education including: Secretary of State Colin
Powell; former Clinton advisor, Vernon Jordan; the head of
Fannie Mae, Franklin Raines; and rap impresario, Russell Simmons.
In the final segment, Dr. Gates interviews Dr. Lenora Fulani
about her education work, and features the Development School
