| Production of Sally and Tom: The
American Way |
Over the last several years, Atlanta has seen the growth
of the Atlanta Independent Theatre (AIT), through its cutting
edge, socially engaged theater. The theatre has produced plays
and musical play-readings, showcasing the work of playwright
Fred Newman with productions Sally and Tom: The American Way,
Sessions With Jesus, Outing Wittgenstein. AIT has also produced
the works of other cutting edge playwrights such as Heiner
Müller.

the January 24th show |
AIT also produces an ongoing play-reading workshop-performance
series entitled, What's the Point? What’s Political
About Political Theater? In this three evening workshop, new
and experienced performers explore political and socially
engaged theater in the context of a postmodern, developmental
theater approach that builds community. These performers have
explored the works of Tony Kushner, Melody Cooper, Fred Newman,
Naomi Wallace, Heiner Müller and plan to explore many
others. This series is a great way for people who are interested
in learning about AIT’s performance method to help create
theater.

On January 24th, the Atlanta All Stars Talent Show Network
held a one-day All Stars Talent Show cultural event for 125
people: eighteen performers, eleven acts, rappers, dancers,
singers and a clarinet player!
May 8th will be our one-day fundraising event. We are currently
in the process of planning our Art Auction and upcoming benefit
concert in the East Atlanta Community. Volunteers participate
in a wide range of areas: organizing All Stars welcoming orientations,
working the streets, communities and housing projects to recruit
young people, meeting donors and supporters, and making regular
calls to young people, volunteers and supporters.

| Young Performers prepare for a show. |
After several years of producing events in West End, Grant
Park, College Park, Stone Mountain and Gwinnett County, Atlanta
All Stars has been joined by new Atlanta resident, Nichelle
“BrownEyes” Brown-Joseph, a talented rapper, and
award winning community builder of the All Stars Talent Show
Network in New York. BrownEyes has worked with performance
pioneer Murray Dabby, a longtime Atlanta social therapist,
and many other committed Atlanta activists to create a growing
community of people who are making a developmental difference
for hundreds of young people, adults and families.
Our exciting Rappin’ Reality workshop is an opportunity
for young people and adults, many who are new volunteers,
to get a snap shot experience of the All Stars by a premier
builder and All Stars performer. As a talented rap artist
and poet, BrownEyes leads diverse participants in developing
creative group performances as rappers. We offer this workshop
every month, and are bringing it to different organizations
and community groups, from shelters to youth programs. We
welcome your invitation to bring this exciting work to your
agency or group.
To get involved in any of our efforts make our cultural programs
more available to the Atlanta metropolitan area, call (770)
242-2118 or email us at AllStarsTheater@aol.com. Speak to
Murray Dabby who can help you learn about how to participate!
