Report from the Philadelphia All Stars Talent Show Network and PCIC

Philadelphia All Stars Talent Show Network

Under the leadership of Production Manager Vision T. Great, the Philadelphia All Stars Talent Show Network (PASTSN) is gearing up for its third year of producing this unique talent show program. The fifth Philly show will take place on May 15th at a middle school in North Philadelphia, a community in which the All Stars Project has been developing relationships and introducing the All Stars Talent Show Network over the past year. PASTSN volunteers are exited to get out to the streets in February to start signing up youth to perform in that show.

The PASTSN has also added a new feature to its production and organizing efforts this year where talented volunteers go out to community centers to conduct auditions for youth who want to be in the show. Vision has already produced one community audition and the young people were very exited and revved up!

As a young project, the PASTSN is working on building its volunteer base to help produce the show, which includes presentations on the All Stars Talent Show Network to youth centers around the region. If you would like to volunteer or if you are involved with/work for a youth center, a church, a social service or community agency and want to find out more about the Philadelphia All Stars talent Show Network, please contact us!

Philadelphia Center for Independent Culture

The Philadelphia Center for Independent Culture (PCIC), inspired by Castillo Theater of New York, is celebrating its eighth year of creating unique community theater and cultural events throughout the City of Brotherly Love. PCIC brings together people who would not typically create together -folks from all over the region of different ages, experience, and cultural backgrounds- to produce full length plays, staged readings, performance workshops and performance cafes as well as fund-raising activities such as silent auctions, street fund-raising performances and other special events.

This year, the PCIC has had a wonderful array of events scheduled. The first event was a joint venture between PCIC and the Philly All Stars. Volunteers from both cultural projects took a wonderful trip en masse to the new All Stars Project Inc. space on 42nd Street. It was a successful and informative day of orientation for the volunteers. The visit included meetings led by program directors at 42nd street, as well as viewings of two shows: Crown Heights and Demonstration. Folks were moved and inspired by what can be built with persistent dedication, creativity and hard work. PCIC is taking that energy to move into 2004 season!

PCIC's next event is a celebration for supporters and donors entitled Potpourri of Postmodern Political Plays. This cocktail party will feature a retrospective of plays that PCIC has produced with readings and performances by current PCIC volunteers. In April we will be producing a public showing of the independent film directed by Fred Newman entitled Nothing Really Happens, complete with panel discussions.

Please visit our web site at http://www.perform2bu.org for more information on our project. Our web site has a donor's page, so please visit, give generously and help us advance our capacity to build independent culture for youth and adults. As part of that effort, we hope to, eventually, have our own administrative offices with our sister project, the PASTSN. The main focus of this year's fundraising activities will be to make that dream a success.
