All Stars Project’s new headquarters on 42nd Street
is quickly becoming a magnet for the city’s volunteers.
Talented Volunteers program director Gail Elberg
and her team have increased the number of Introduction
to Volunteering sessions to four times a week at the
center, while orientation and training sessions for new volunteers
are now being held three times a month. Many of these volunteers
will debut on 42nd Street as members of the House Staff “Cast”
for Theatre for the Whole City—performing as
ushers, ticket takers, tour guides, and more.
Meanwhile, plans are in full swing for the ASP’s 10th
Annual Bowl-a-thon, benefiting All Stars youth programs.
It will be held on Saturday, May 16 at Leisure Time Recreation
lanes in Manhattan’s Port Authority. Talented Volunteer
April Siegel is currently organizing other volunteers to build
the event by asking their businesses and companies to sponsor
lanes. “I like knowing that this is going to support
young people,” says Ms. Siegel, who works as an office
support recruiter and who joined Talented Volunteers last
summer after meeting an ASP street team doing outreach in
her neighborhood.
