On Monday, March 14 the All Stars NJ held
its fifth annual “New Jersey Loves Its Youth” gala benefit
at NJPAC. The gala, which was attended by 250 New Jersey
business and civic leaders including Congressman Donald M.
Payne, honored four companies as “Corporations That Care.”
The event also marked the beginning of a five year, $5 million
dollar expansion campaign to double the size of the New Jersey
programs and to capitalize a New Jersey All Stars Center for
Youth Development to be located in Newark.

The New Jersey Development School for Youth
began its 11th leadership training cycle in early
February. This spring’s workshop sessions will include “The
Business of Government” led by Newark City administrator Richard
Monteilh and sessions with Merrill Lynch and CIT executives.

On Friday, February 18, NJ DSY alumna and 2003 Young Leader
for Change, Veronica Osorio was awarded a Daily Point of Light Award from the
Points of Light Foundation. Since graduating from the DSY, Veronica has
volunteered with the All Stars Talent Show and chaired the Phat Friend Awards
committee. In a Star Ledger profile, Veronica said, “My friends always
ask me why I volunteer and dedicate so much time to this organization, but I do
it not out of obligation, but because I’ve found an organization that is for
the best interests of the people of the inner-city and is actively striving
