The Bay Area All Stars held its latest audition,
Saturday, March 12 at Oakland Technical High School. Every
Sunday for several weeks prior to the 12th, the volunteer
outreach team was out pre-registering dozens of young people
on busy Oakland street corners, in parks, outside of schools
and recreation centers. In one outreach effort, Dr. Elouise
Joseph, Director of the All Stars Youth Programming and Community
Outreach along with youth leader Eulanna Allen addressed an
excited audience of young people at an Oakland Boys and Girls
Club many of whom signed up to perform and volunteer.

On May 18, the Bay Area Center for Independent
Culture (BACIC) will hold its annual Phat Friends
Off the Hizzle (PFOTH) gala, benefiting the
Bay Area All Stars. Held at Scott's Seafood Restaurant in
Oakland, PFOTH is an awards ceremony where young people solicit,
interview and nominate adults from their communities who have
made a difference in the lives of young people. The Youth
Selection Committee members Eulanna Allen, Amani Barnes, Lavese
Collins, Luis Garcia, Flaca Hendren, Simeon Lockhart and Shellena
Eskridge are reaching other young people to involve them in
this unique awards process.
