The Bay Area All Stars begins fourth year in Oakland

Volunteers, Bryce Lloyd (L) and Eddy Lopez, Jr. gear up to run the house at the All Stars' audition on March 12th.

The Bay Area All Stars held its latest audition, Saturday, March 12 at Oakland Technical High School. Every Sunday for several weeks prior to the 12th, the volunteer outreach team was out pre-registering dozens of young people on busy Oakland street corners, in parks, outside of schools and recreation centers. In one outreach effort, Dr. Elouise Joseph, Director of the All Stars Youth Programming and Community Outreach along with youth leader Eulanna Allen addressed an excited audience of young people at an Oakland Boys and Girls Club many of whom signed up to perform and volunteer.

If you live in the San Francisco/Oakland Bay Area, you're between the ages of 5-25 and like to perform, contact Dr. Elouise Joseph at 415-986-2565 to learn more about the All Stars or sign up for an upcoming audition. If you are 13 or older and would like to work backstage or help staff an event, contact Caroline Donnola, All Stars Volunteer and Operations Manager, at 415-986-2565.

On May 18, the Bay Area Center for Independent Culture (BACIC) will hold its annual Phat Friends Off the Hizzle (PFOTH) gala, benefiting the Bay Area All Stars. Held at Scott's Seafood Restaurant in Oakland, PFOTH is an awards ceremony where young people solicit, interview and nominate adults from their communities who have made a difference in the lives of young people. The Youth Selection Committee members Eulanna Allen, Amani Barnes, Lavese Collins, Luis Garcia, Flaca Hendren, Simeon Lockhart and Shellena Eskridge are reaching other young people to involve them in this unique awards process.

If you would like to nominate a caring adult for a Phat Friend award, contact Eddy Lopez, Jr. at 415-986-2565. If you'd like to get information about attending the event, contact Marge Golden, Director of the Annual Campaign, at 415-986-2502.
