Expanding in Atlanta

With over 100 new contributors added to the Atlanta All Stars’ donor base during 2004, Atlanta is looking forward to an exciting year of growth for 2005.

On April 20, Dr. Lois Holzman, one of the directors of the All Stars Project’s Research Center in New York City, will be in town for a speaking engagement at Spellman College. The students at Spellman have asked Dr. Holzman to speak about the relationship between performance and community building; her talks will feature the work of the All Stars.

On June 25, Atlanta All Stars will host a performers workshop, the lead-up event to the July 9 talent show. Both events will be held at the South Cobb Recreation Center, (which is just west of Atlanta). All Stars volunteers, led by Christy Seigling and Mike Pickering, started community outreach in late February, setting up tables near the local South Cobb K-Mart. To date they have signed up several dozen young performers and volunteers for the workshop and show. Every week, Seigling takes out 4 –7 volunteers for the outreach.

The Atlanta All Stars will hold its first ever Gala Fundraiser in early June. A highlight of the evening will be the showing of a retrospective video of the Atlanta All Stars.
