The Theatre for the Whole City 2005-06 season at the All Stars Project's 42nd Street performing arts and education center got off to an early start this year with Rules for Good Manners in the Modern World, written by Jean-Luc Lagarce. This wicked satire of middle class values — with no story, no characters and no dramatic conflict — was presented by T.U.T.A. (The Utopian Theatre Asylum) of Chicago. The limited run of five performances ran August 25 through August 28th. |

On October 7, the All Stars Project will present Hidden Images, an exhibition of paintings by the contemporary Austrian artist, Wolf Werdigier, that reveal the personal, human and emotional toll of the Middle East conflict and the dreams and hopes of ordinary residents of the region. Mr. Werdigier, who grew up in post-World War II Europe, had a Jewish father who was a concentration camp survivor and a Christian mother. He began the Hidden Images project in Israel in 2001 as a means to build bridges between the two peoples. In 2005 the artist also conducted interviews with over 40 New Yorkers of diverse ethnic backgrounds and ages from which he created several new works. These paintings that explore race in America, will be included in the exhibit. The exhibit, subtitled “An Archeology of the Unconscious — Israelis and Palestinians” will open the same day as Sally and Tom (The American Way). |

Set during the turbulent, early years of the republic, Fred Newman's musical, Sally and Tom (The American Way), recounts the love affair between President Thomas Jefferson and his slave, Sally Hemings. The musical also examines a muckraking journalist's role in the resulting political scandal. Sally and Tom, with book and lyrics by Castillo's artistic director, Fred Newman, and music by the Country Music Award-winning songwriter, Annie Roboff, is directed by Newman and Gabrielle L. Kurlander. It is interesting to note that Sally and Tom, which is Castillo's most popular musical, was originally written and produced before DNA testing scientifically established Sally and Tom's relationship. Sally and Tom runs through December 4. |

This is Your Ridiculous Life. This popular and zany improvisational comedy show, now in its third smash season, features professional psychotherapists who conduct live interviews with audience volunteers whose stories become material for on-the-spot improvisations! This Is Your Ridiculous Life is excited to welcome two new performers to the ensemble: Maureen Kelly, of Performance of a Lifetime and actor/improviser, Andy Parker, who appeared in last season's hit play at the Castillo Theatre, Stealin' Home. |

Another Opening is the newest performance activity at the All Stars Project. Launched during the summer of 2005, Another Opening invites people off the street to come in and "audition" in our lobby. They are not auditioning for anything in particular, except to have the experience of performing on 42nd Street. Many have never performed in front of another human being in their whole lives! Already dozens of people have come in to strut their stuff including poets, salsa teachers, belly dancers, opera singers, children, tourists -- performers and non-performers alike -- to try their hand at the wonderful and very human activity of performing! |
