On Wednesday, August 17, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the World Financial Center headquarters of Merrill Lynch, All Stars Project co-founder, Dr. Lenora Fulani, and 151 inner city youth recognized fifty-six New York City companies and their executives for providing paid summer internships and on-the-job-training to the young people. The teens were from the Joseph A. Forgione Development School for Youth (DSY), the All Stars' leadership training program, which introduces inner city young people 16-21 years old to the business world.
The DSY, founded in 1997 and directed by Dr. Fulani and Pamela A. Lewis, is an after-school program at the forefront of a new trend in education that recognizes that non-school-based learning opportunities, known as supplementary education, are critical to children's success in school and the world beyond.
Since 1997, over 500 students have graduated from this 4-month outside of school program and been placed in 8-week, paid summer internships.
