More than 350 young dancers, singers, rappers, steppers and spoken word artists — dressed in eye-catching homemade costumes and ranging in age from 5 years to 25 years old — performed at two All Stars Talent Shows at Clara Barton High School in Crown Heights, Brooklyn — on May 20 and June 10 — in front of a combined audience of close to 2000 friends, family and neighbors.
Each year, several thousand inner-city youth participate in All Stars Talent Show Network (ASTSN)-sponsored events, including auditions, performance workshops and talent shows. The young people both produce and perform in the events — performing onstage as rappers, singers, steppers and dancers and off stage as producers, ushers, ticket sellers, stage managers, box office staff, spokespersons, stagehands, emcees and members of the technical and security staffs.
The ASTSN is active throughout the five boroughs of New York City and in Newark, New Jersey. Nationally, the All Stars Talent Show Network is being produced by local organizations in Atlanta, Boston, Oakland and Los Angeles, and internationally in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
