On Friday, August 11, the Atlanta All Stars Talent Show Network (ASTSN) will produce Censor Me!, a benefit to be held at a contemporary innovative arts and performance space located near the new loft districts downtown. The gallery will bring together works of art produced by youth performers and volunteers at the All Stars, by local artists and by Atlanta celebrities. The proceeds will support the ASTSN that helps to develop youth from some of the poorest communities in Atlanta. The art show will have unusual, touching and edgy pieces to auction and sell. Throughout the show, young All Stars dancers, singers, rappers and actors will present special performances.
During the next two months, All Stars youth and volunteers will create art pieces for the event. The process of producing the artwork includes the exploration of censorship issues, the impact of censorship in the personal lives of youth and volunteers, and learning to stretch creatively.
The summer and fall plans also include All Stars showcases in downtown Atlanta and "Rappin' Reality" workshops in communities that are experiencing increasing gang violence.
