New Jersey All Stars Brings Development to Newark Renaissance

2006 New Jersey DSY graduation

Through their participation in the All Stars Project, young people are continuing to take center stage in the renaissance of Newark. At the end of April, the Development School for Youth graduated 52 students, and the program will place as many as 80 graduates in corporate internships starting in July. The All Stars Talent Show’s spring audition, held at Barringer High School, attracted over 225 young people and volunteers.

The NJ All Stars is being recognized as a leading community partner by the Booker administration.  NJ All Stars director Gloria Strickland is on the Steering Committee of Newark Youth Connection, a new city-wide youth leadership initiative, and was invited by Central Ward City Councilwoman Dana Rone to serve along with leading educators on her education committee she chairs.

Corporate professionals from more than two-dozen New Jersey companies and hundreds of adults and youth from all over New Jersey volunteer with the program and have forged a growing partnership —between business and youth — and between urban and suburban New Jersey.
