For lots of kids throughout NYC, fall means it's time for another All Stars season!  For All Stars volunteers the fall season started early – in July!  That's when they headed out to the community to talk to young people and invite them to participate in the upcoming audition.

Teams of volunteers headed out to Pitkin Avenue in Brooklyn on Saturdays throughout July, August and September. Pitkin Ave is a popular shopping street for the surrounding neighborhoods of Brownsville, East New York, Bedford Stuyvesant, Bushwick and Crown Heights.  They met young people from all over the area – some who have been involved in the All Stars for years and many who have never heard of the All Stars.  They spoke to thousands of people as they went about their shopping and chores.

The response has been great.  Two hundred and fifty-two acts have signed up to audition so far; and several hundred young people and adults took postcards and literature to help get the word out in their neighborhoods and schools.  Volunteers are now calling everyone who signed up to welcome them to the All Stars and go over information for the audition. 

How are the calls going?  One group of girls said that they will be singing and accompanying themselves on guitar, keyboard and drums.  One young rapper wanted to know if he could use swear words.  And a young man who had performed in the All Stars in the past is now organizing and managing a dance group of his own.  Based on these calls, we are expecting hundreds of fantastic acts to come out for the first audition, held at 1pm on October 20th at John Adams High School, located at 101-01 Rockaway Blvd. in Queens. The All Stars Talent Show itself will also be held at John Adams on Saturday, December 8.  Doors open at 2:30 pm.  For more information, contact Kathy Fiess at kfiess@allstars.org.
