| Murray Dabby and Nichelle "Browneyes" Brown with participants from a "Rappin' Reality" workshop in Riverdale, GA. |
The Atlanta All Stars has been meeting young people from several different communities around the Atlanta Metro Area through our "Rappin’ Reality" workshops and open mics. All Stars Atlanta has brought "Rappin’ Reality" to 14 different community venues in Riverdale, Austell, Lithonia and College Park.
Developed by All Stars veteran Nichelle "Browneyes" Brown, "Rappin’ Reality" is a series of performance workshops designed as an introduction the All Stars' performatory approach to development. During the workshops, Browneyes and Atlanta All Stars Executive Director Murray Dabby lead improvisational exercises between youth and adults which culminate in the creation of a collective rap. Young people and adults learn to perform and play together in new ways. Following the rap, the event turns into an open mic and audition for anyone wanting to perform at an Atlanta All Stars citywide talent show.
This fall, the Atlanta All Stars citywide talent show auditions and performance workshops will be held in College Park on November 3, followed by a talent show on November 17. Over a dozen acts have already auditioned and many more have signed up to audition in November.
