| "Some Kind of Wonderful," an alumni group from Harlem, won first place in the Junior Dance Division at the Dec. 8 All Stars Talent Show at John Adams High School. Their manager, Jamaal Lewis, has been part of the All Stars for 15 years. |
On Saturday, December 8th, the All Stars Talent Show Network (ASTSN) wrapped up its 2007 season with a knock-out performance at John Adams High School, in Ozone Park, Queens. Performing for a packed house of 700, 170 dancers, singers, rappers and steppers between the ages of 5 and 25 amazed the audience with their creative and innovative acts.
Competition this cycle was especially hot, and included 6 alumni acts, with between 15 and 21 performers each. Another highlight was special guest Miss Mia, who came all the way from the Chicago All Stars to co-emcee our show with New York’s favorite emcee, Big Wil.
With the year coming to a close, All Stars performers, staff, and volunteers are already hard at work organizing for 2008. There are currently plans in the works to produce shows in Brooklyn, the Bronx, and Queens. This year, the All Stars is also planning to produce mini-auditions in schools and community centers, such as the audition that took place in Brownsville on November 3rd of this year, so that even more young people can have the opportunity to perform.
The first ASTSN cycle of the New Year is just around the corner, and will kick off with an audition on January 12th, in Queens. All Stars volunteers have already hit the streets to spread the word, and performers from the December 8th show are organizing more young people from their communities to participate. For more information about this audition, please contact Marques Donovan at 212-356-8447 to perform, or Kathy Fiess at 212-356-8438 to volunteer.
