The ASP of the SF Bay Area Moves Into New Territory

Dr. Elouise Joseph, Youth Programs Director of the ASP of the SF Bay Area, with members of the outreach team.

The summer has been sizzling for the All Stars Project of the San Francisco Bay Area (ASP of the SF Bay Area) team who have been reaching out to young people at festivals and busy street corners and lining up speaking engagements at summer programs and events.  Dr. Elouise Joseph, youth program director of the ASP of the SF Bay Area has been meeting with local community leaders, including directors of neighborhood YMCAs, Boys and Girls Clubs, recreation centers and other after school programs to expand the ASP’s reach in more inner-city neighborhood in San Francisco.

Talent show auditions were held in two neighborhoods —on August 2nd in Bayview/Hunters Point, the heart of the African American community and August 16th in the Mission District, home of the Latino community. Plans are also underway for talent shows on September 6th in the Richmond District, a predominantly Chinese community and on September 27th at a well-known and centrally located venue called Zeum, a children’s museum in downtown San Francisco. Community leaders have described the All Stars Project as exactly what is needed to bring children, teens, and young adults from different neighborhoods together to create something positive and new.

On July 1st, the ASP of the SF Bay area held a kick off event at Merrill Lynch’s San Francisco for their annual fall benefit dinner that scheduled for October 27th at the Westin St. Francis. Seventy-five business executives from Merrill Lynch, Latham and Watkins, and Cisco Systems attended. Joyce Dattner, Director of the ASP of the SF Bay Area noted the important role that business leaders play to ensure that more and more young people have access to the All Stars Project’s Talent Show Network and to the nationally acclaimed Development School for Youth which is slated to launch in the SF Bay Area in 2009/2010.
