All Stars Project of New York, Talented Volunteers program has been at work night and day, lending their hands to every aspect of our efforts.
Over 150 volunteers staffed the Performing the World 08 conference in early October. Our volunteers also generously offered their homes to attendees from around the world – both making the conference in New York City affordable and, most importantly, building the person-to-person connection that is at the core of our development approach.
Since September, over 92 volunteers and interns have come on board. Volunteers from Simon and Schuster joined us for a Corporate Volunteer Day partnership on October 10th lending their skill and good will. Interns and volunteers have been recruited this fall from 10 New York City colleges and 15 high schools.
On November 9th All Stars Talented Volunteers held their 14th Annual Fundraising Bowl-a-thon, Bowling for Youth Development. Volunteers raised $30,000. Corporate lanes included Deutsche Bank, CompuCom and ITG. Starbucks and Ben & Jerry’s donated gift certificates awarded to volunteers for every $100 they raised over the first $100.
The All Stars Susan Santo 2008 Volunteer Spirit Award was presented at the Bowl-a-thon to two deserving volunteers, Maureen Albanese and Andy Moss. The award is named in honor of Susan Santo, an All Stars business intern who supported our Bowl-a-thon for many years before she died tragically at the World Trade Center on September 11th, 2001. Maureen works at CIBC and has tirelessly worked with our Major Gifts department for many years. Andy, an accountant with the Associated Press, is a backbone of both our neighborhood talent show staff and our Castillo Theatre house management team.
The year ended in rousing style at the annual All Stars Project Holiday Party on Dec. 13th, which included a silent auction and Holiday Chorus!
