All Stars of New Jersey Grows with YO! and Talent Shows!

Young dancers audition at the Baxter Terrace housing project for the All Stars Project of New Jersey Talent Show.

This October, the All Stars Project of New Jersey (ASP of NJ) launched Youth Onstage!, the All Stars Project’s youth theatre program, with great success.  The eleven participants hail from six New Jersey towns: Newark, Irvington, Orange, East Orange, Union, and Bloomfield.  The young people are learning performance techniques and are working on devising an original theatre piece that will be performed in honor of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday in January 2009.

The ASP of NJ, Talent Show Network had a great series of auditions leading up to the fall 2008 talent show.  Auditions were held in new locations, including the Ironbound Community Center and the Baxter Terrace housing projects.  Over one hundred young people came out to the four auditions throughout the communities of Newark.  The young people came together on November 22 to create improvisational performances at the performance workshop at Barringer High School.  The show itself was held back at Barringer on December 6 and was a rousing success!
