Some of the enthusiastic bowlers from last year’s All Stars Volunteer Bowl-a-thon.

Volunteerism at the All Stars Project has been our driving force from Day 1.  Now, 28 years later, volunteering is at an all-time high with folks from all walks of life lending their hand to grow the All Stars programs.

Our fastest-growing Talented Volunteer program has launched its 15th annual citywide Bowl-a-thon: Bowling for Youth Development.  The 2009 Bowl-a-thon will take place on Sunday, June 14th at Leisure Time Lanes at Port Authority.

Excellence in bowling is not needed – enthusiasm is – and that our volunteers have plenty of!  Hundreds of volunteers will come out for this “fun”d-raising tradition.  How does it work? To bowl, volunteers raise a minimum of $100.  Prizes are given for every $100 raised above that.  To help with the fundraising, bowlers have a personal webpage set up for them with their picture, fundraising goal and personal message. They then email their friends and family to go to their page and give online.  It’s easy and fun!!

The day of the event, bowlers have breakfast, get T-shirts, tons of prizes, trophies and bowl two games.  Companies can adopt a lane and their employees can bowl on it!  Great for team building!

Finally, at the end of the event, our Susan Santo Volunteer Spirit Award (Volunteer of the Year) is presented, names for an All Stars volunteer who died at the World Trade Center on September 11th 2001.
